The Basic Gun Dog Program is designed to transform a young retriever into a steady, reliable hunting companion. Over the course of 4–5 months, this gun dog training helps dogs learn the fundamentals of obedience training and control, along with retrieving skills that prepare them to be 'ready to hunt.'
Complete Obedience Program: This gun dog training course includes both on-lead and off-leash training to ensure your hunting companion has reliable control in the field and at home.
Force Fetch: This essential component teaches the dog to properly pick up, hold, and deliver birds or bumpers straight to hand every time, enhancing their obedience training.
Steadiness Training: Dogs learn to remain calm and steady through gunfire, excitement, and falling birds until released, making them reliable hunting companions.
Marking Skills: Introduction to multiple retrieves (doubles) allows the dog to learn how to watch and remember more than one fall, crucial for effective gun dog training.
Basics of Handling: Dogs are introduced to hand signals for directional casting, giving you control when a retrieve requires guidance during your hunting excursions.
Intro to Blind Retrieves: By the end of this program, most dogs will progress to running simple blinds, further solidifying their skills in obedience training.
By the end of your gun dog training, your dog will be steady to the shot, confidently pick up marked birds, and deliver them to hand. They’ll be well-prepared as a reliable hunting companion in real hunting situations and will have the foundation needed to advance into more complex obedience training if desired.
