What It Is: Our Obedience Program is designed to create well-mannered, respectful dogs that are a joy to live with at home and dependable hunting companions in the field. This 6–8 week program focuses on effective obedience training and is split into two stages: On-Lead Training and Off-Leash Training. Each stage builds on the last, ensuring steady progress and lasting results, making it ideal for any dog involved in gun dog training.
Dogs begin learning their obedience commands while under the control of a lead, which is essential for effective gun dog training. This foundational stage is crucial for all future training as it teaches your hunting companion to respond consistently.
Commands Taught:
Here (come when called – voice & whistle)
Sit (voice & whistle)
Down
Heel (walk calmly by your side)
Kennel (go into crate or designated spot)
No (stop unwanted behavior)
Focus: Building understanding, consistency, and trust between dog and handler.
Once a dog has mastered on-lead control, they advance to off-leash work, which is essential in gun dog training. This stage reinforces all previously learned commands without a leash, giving your dog both freedom and reliability as a hunting companion.
Key Training Elements:
- Reinforcing known commands without a lead
- Exposure to distractions (people, dogs, hunting environments)
- Proper e-collar conditioning for clear and fair communication
- Freedom while maintaining control and responsiveness
What You Can Expect:
By the end of this obedience training program, your dog will have a strong foundation and the reliability to listen both on and off the lead. They’ll be easier to manage at home, steady in public, and better prepared for advanced training or hunting work.
Got a specific problem with your hunting companion? Let’s talk. Whether it's aggression, leash reactivity, or door manners, we create personalized training plans that incorporate obedience training and are tailored to your dog and your lifestyle, including gun dog training if needed.
